Weekend Wandering – November 22-23

Keep warm with all of these great fun indoor activities this weekend.  There are also some outside things too in case you love playing out in the cold.

Saturday and Sunday

Kettering Ice Arena Open Skate, Kettering Rec Complex, 2900 Glengarry Dr, Kettering.  1:00 to 3:00 pm.  Admission is $3 for residents (ages 3-17) and $6 for non residents.  $3.50 and $7 for adults. If you also rent skates it is $4.50 and $7.50 for kids, $5 and $10 for adults.

Holiday Lights at Sharon Woods, Sharonville.  6:00 to 10:00 pm (Sat), 6:00 to 9:00 pm (Sun).  $13 per vehicle.  Come see the holiday lights including more than 120 moving and standing holiday themed figures.

Miracle on 34th Street at La Comedia Dinner Theatre, 765 W. Central Ave, Springboro.  10:30 am and 5:30 pm showings.  This is the musical version of the movie Miracle on 34th street.  $56 for adults, $30 for infant – 11 years.  To buy tickets go here http://online.reserveashow.com/PerfCalendar.aspx?Show=1551

Just Saturday

Native Shrub Planting at Germantown MetroPark.  9:00 am to Noon.  Join the MetroParks and help plant native shrubs to create a more diverse edge planting.  All ages are invited.

Breakfast with Santa, Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Dr, Xenia.  9:30 am to 11:00 am.  $10 per person with breakfast, photo with Santa and $5 for Kandy Kane Junction.  Must be prepaid – call Susan at 937-372-7601

Dayton YMCA Open House, Downtown Dayton YMCA, 316 N. Wilkinson St, Dayton.  10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  This free event will allow you to try out a fitness class, tour the facility, sample natural juices and more.

Mother Goose on the Loose, Miamisburg Library.  10:00 to 11:00 am.  Ages 3 and younger are invited to take part in an early literacy program that uses rhymes, songs, puppets, musical instruments and more.  Please register in advance.

Thanksgiving Story Time and Craft, Tools 4 Learning, 1277 N. Fairfield Rd, Beavercreek.  10:00 to 11:00 am and 1:00 to 2:00 pm.  This free event features a small craft for kids that go along with the story.  Ages 4-10.  RSVP – call 937-320-2299.

Saturday Puppet Shows at Huber Heights Library.  11:00 to 11:30 am.  Grades K-4 and younger are invited to the library to enjoy a puppet show.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Party at Huber Heights Library.  1:00 to 3:00 pm.  Grades 6 and up are invited to come test your skills. One lucky tribute will win a free pass to see the movie.

Hometown Heros: Kettering K-9 Unit at Wilmington-Stroop Library.  1:00 to 2:00 pm.  Come get to know the K-9 unit of the Kettering Police Department.

Super Saturday Family Day at Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park North Dr, Dayton.  1:00 to 3:00 pm.  $5 for members, $10 for non-members, $2 for each additional child.  Celebrate the Deco Japan exhibit by learning about Japanese art and culture while creating a fun whimsical Japanese art project and participate in a Japanese tea ceremony.

Fire Safety Heroes at Northtown-Shiloh Library.  1:30 to 2:15 pm.  First Responders from Harrison Twp Fire Dept will talk about fire safety and give cool demonstrations.

Paws to Read at Burkhardt Library.  2:00 to 3:00 pm.  Come read stories to dogs.  Grades K-4, Tweens and preschool.

Hometown Holiday in Riverside Yule Love It!, Airway Shopping Center in Riverside.  4:00 to 8:00 pm.  This free event features the arrival of Santa by fire truck at 4 pm.  There will be horse-drawn wagon rides, live entertainment, pictures with Santa, lighting of the tree at 6 pm and much more.  Everyone who comes is asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Project Share Program.

Christmas Tree Lighting at The Greene, 51 Plum Street, Beavercreek.  5:00 to 8:00 pm.  Enjoy the Beavercreek High School Marching band at 5, Muse Machine (sing and dance) at 5:30 and Santa’s arrival at 6 pm.

Carriage Rides at the Greene, 51 Plum Street, Beavercreek.  6:00 to 10:00 pm.  $10 for adults or $15 per couple. Children 15 and under free with a paying adult.

Just Sunday

Sinclair’s Community Concert Band Fall Concert, Music Department, 444 W. Third Street, Dayton.  2:00 pm.  This free event features the Sinclair Community College Concert Band.

Sinclair’s Choral Concert, Shiloh Church, 5300 Philadelphia Dr, Dayton.  7:00 to 9:00 pm.  This concert features a one-time performance of Handel’s Messiah.  In lieu of admission, the public is invited to bring a non-perishable food item.  Parking is free.
